Work & play all together in a day
"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". This age-old adage is especially relevant today, due to the extremely competitive corporate world. Workloads have been increasing by the day and employees do not possess the luxury to fish out time for some leisure and relaxation. Too many impending deadlines, thick files and numerous unfinished folders can often draw out the energy of employees, leaving them panting for some rejuvenation. Under such circumstances, if workplaces become places that help employees de-stress, rejuvenate and relax, it would definitely bring about greater productivity, besides work satisfaction among employees.
Let us picture this - if an employee is allotted enough time to relax during his lunch and coffee breaks, is provided with library, recreational facilities in the office premises and is also given regular medical check-ups, he would obviously enjoy working for his employer because he has both competitive workloads to complete and has opportunities to relax, learn and grow. Such work conditions not only help the employees, but they also aid the company to gain quite a bit:
Improves performance: The company benefits immensely due to the improvised quality of output from their employees. Continuous working hours can often hamper the thought-flow of employees, due to which their abilities to come up with innovative strategies and ideas are limited. When provided with opportunities to relax, read up and socialise, these small breaks in between work serve as the `recharging phase', that propel the employee towards brainstorming and coming up with some splendid ideas.
Team Building: Tackling projects as a team and common targets are a part of work life. However, the required team spirit might often be the cause for disruptive teamworking abilities. When an employer provides employees with facilities over which they can bond and establish amicability, it can help in the better functioning of teams.
Sense of Belonging: Such facilities and activities provided for the personal growth and relaxation of employees goes a long way in cementing the employer-employee bond. It shows that the company cares for its employees and their well-being. This results in a greater degree of loyalty and provokes the employees to work harder and better.
Checks attrition: When the company succeeds in satisfying its employees, both intellectually and otherwise, they do not contemplate considering better offers. This is due to the loyalty and bond established, that plays a major role in warding off the advances made by competitors. The workloads are often perceived as `manageable' and not `too much', due to the facilities provided and the concern shown by the company towards its employees.
Global phenomenon: With the demand for talented employees rising by the day, employers often do their best to retain those productive employees. In an attempt to avoid any mishaps related to job switching or employer ditching, employers have become keen on nurturing their employees and receiving better output form them!
Not only do employees benefit from such employee welfare-oriented strategies but employers too receive a great deal of benefits, besides the loyalty and satisfaction of their employees.
