Clues to ace your interview at HOF

Many of you must be gearing up to attend the job fair at Chennai on 29 & 30 September, to be held at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam.

Last week we had given you some general tips on how to prepare for a job fair and the rules of conduct required. Now we will get into something much more specific, job fairs are basically about interviews and it will help you to know that there are th ree kinds of interviews that happen at job fairs.

Let us take a brief look at them and also give you inputs on how to tackle each kind of interview:

The screening interview: This is that interview where you are asked to give a brief about yourself by the company reps when you walk up to their company booth. The objective of such interviews is to gather enough information about you and also decide whether you are good enough to be considered for the next round of interviews. So it is vital that you give your best self-introduction and make it as interesting as possible. Your objective here should be to highlight the main features in your resume. If you can stress on those skills of yours, which can meet the requirements of the company, you have the winning edge.

The mini interview: This is normally the next step after the screening interview. Here the employer interviews you for about five to ten minutes in the company booth. You are expected to give a full background about yourself, use this to your advantage by projecting yourself as someone who can meet the company requirements. The employer will mostly ask you to elaborate on your resume, so be prepared for it. There may also be questions on your skills and abilities that may not exactly reflect in your resume. The trick of the trade is to frame your answers in such a way that it projects you as the ideal candidate.

The full interview: Though such interviews rarely happen in a fair, it is always good to be prepared for them. Such an interview is usually done behind a screen in the booth or another part of the venue. The employers conduct this interview based on the mini interview. It is usually between 20 to 30 minutes. This is like a real full-length interview. So be prepared for any such interviews before the fair. In this kind of interview done by a manager, you will be asked specific questions related to your skills.

Make sure to tell the interviewer at the end of the interview that you are truly interested and try to gauge their interest as well. Try to find out what the next stage will be so that you can prepare for it and clinch the job.

We hope these tips will help you at the fair and come out a winner!
