Test for the world
Sir, - The outrage in Srinagar on October 1 must be condemned in
the strongest terms as a blatant terrorist act. In the present
orchestration against terrorism this heinous act of the Jaish-e-
Mohammed (JeM) is a slap on the face of the world community. The
dastardly act is in defiance of all that has been endlessly
debated since `Black Tuesday' in New York and Washington.
The sincerity and urgency of world leaders to stamp out terrorism
is on test today in Srinagar. We cannot provide dramatic TV
coverage nor do we need to as the Pakistan- based JeM has owned
responsibility.
This is the time the famous (?) Bush poster of `wanted' needs to
be prominently displayed on the notice boards of world
governments, including Pakistan. Mere lip sympathy for India and
strong arm tactics against acts of terrorism in New York and
Washington will strain the credibility of the civilised world.
Particularly of Pakistan, whose President brands hardcore
terrorists ``freedom fighters.''
