Agent turns down Aditya Mittal's offer for a house: report

London (PTI): Aditya Mittal, son of NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal has made an unsolicited offer of nearly 200 million pounds to buy a house infront of his family's residence at the prestigious Kensington Palace Gardens here which has been turned down by a prominent real estate agent.

Jon Hunt, the agent who raked in 370 million pounds by selling Foxtons at the height of the property boom has turned down the offer from Aditya Mittal, the chief financial officer of Arcelor-Mittal, The Sunday Times reported.

The seven-storey grade II-listed property is located opposite Lakshmi Mittal's home which he bought for 57 million pounds in 2004 from Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One boss.

Aditya had expressed interest in the house but the 200 million pounds price tag was exaggerated, the report said.

No comments were forthcoming from Hunt and the Mittals.

Hunt's mansion is not the only property on Kensington Palace Gardens, a private road lined with foreign embassies and the residential premise of Indian High Commissioner, in which Aditya has shown interest.

He had previously made inquiries about the Nepalese embassy nearby which is worth 150 million pounds as of now.

"Aditya came to look at it about a year ago, but he didn't make an offer," said a diplomatic source. "Our government said at the time that it wasn't interested in selling and so the matter was closed."

Aditya, who lives in Belgravia, is thought to be keen to move his wife, Megha, a former Goldman Sachs banker, and their two daughters closer to his parents.

Kensington Palace Gardens, built in the 1840s on part of the grounds of Kensington Palace, boasts to be the capital's most imposing residences and is home to some of Britain's wealthiest people.
