Lanka Board XI bowled out for 224; Kumble takes 3 wickets

Colombo (AP): Captain Anil Kumble took three wickets on Friday as India's touring side bowled out a Sri Lanka Board XI for 224 runs on the opening day of their three-day practice match.

Playing as 'Indians' rather than the official national side, the tourists replied to be 4-1 at stumps.

Sri Lanka Board XI chose to bat after winning the toss but most of their batsmen failed except Thilina Kandamby (84) and Chamara Silva (68).

Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan and offspinner Harbhajan Singh also took two wickets each to support Kumble.

The Indians faced only four balls in their innings, with medium pacer Dilhara Fernando's snaring of opener Gautam Gambhir signalling stumps on day one.

The first test between Sri Lanka and India will start on Wednesday.

Scores: Sri Lanka Board XI 224 all out (Thilina Kandamby 84, Chamara Silva 68, Jehan Mubarak 25, Anil Kumble 3-30, Zaheer Khan 2-35, Harbhajan Singh 2-52). Indians 4 for 1 wicket (Dilhara Fernando 1-4)
