Questions answered on career concerns

I have done MBBS and would like to do a course in hospital administration. What are the various institutes offering a masters degree in hospital administration?

Manipal Academy of Higher Education,(MAHE) Manipal, and the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, offer MD in hospital administration for MBBS graduates. It is a three-year course and admissions are through an entrance exam.

I am 12th standard student with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as my subjects. I am interested in joining merchant navy. Please suggest the names of some institutes offering the course and its future prospects.

To pursue a career in merchant navy you have to qualify in marine engineering. TS Chanakya, Mumbai and the Marine Engineering Research Institute (MERI), Calcutta conduct courses in marine engineering. To seek admission into the course, you have to qualify in the common entrance exam conducted by IIT. For more details you can write to the institutes.

I am a science graduate and wish to pursue MCA. Kindly provide information about RECs all over India and any website addresses, particularly REC Warangal.

It's nearly impossible to provide relevant details about all the RECs in India, as the information available is exhaustive. The Regional Engineering College, Warangal offers MCA (a three year course). Students from different states in India are admitted on the basis of rank obtained in MCACET - 2000, conducted by Osmania University, Hyderabad, AP. I am doing my B.A II (Psychology & Sociology). I wish to become a psychologist, kindly advice me about the courses I must take up after my graduation, the institutions offering them and the eligibility criteria for admission.

A counsellor needs to understand not only the person's mind but also have the ability to detect mind-related physical problems as well. A postgraduate degree and a doctoral degree in psychology are necessary to pursue counselling as a career. The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi; National Institute of Medical Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore and B.M. Institute of Mental Health, Ahmedabad, offer a postgraduate diploma in medical and social psychology. NIMHANS, Bangalore and Karnataka University, Dharwad (PhD Pro gramme) offer a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Psychology. While a postgraduate diploma in counselling and guidance is offered by the University of Madras, Punjab University, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Delhi and psychology of education by the Bureau of Education, Allahabad. A diploma in professional psychology is offered by Aligarh Muslim University while a certificate in rehabilitation of physically handicapped is offered by NIMHANS, Bangalore. Diploma in vocational rehabilitation and counselling is offered by the All India Institute of physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mumbai and a Certificate in applied Psychology is offered by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Chembur, Mumbai. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, offer research Facilities in Industrial and Experimental Psychology.

I am a final year student of B.Sc (Physics & Maths) and have worked as a political cartoonist and illustrator in a local English daily. I would like to enhance my writing skills and contribute to 'Letters to the editor' column in newspapers. How do I develop my creative side? Is there any lucrative career in this field?

Many software companies employ content writers. To hone your skills of writing, you can join any institute that offers a course in creative writing. Alternatively, you can buy books that help you develop your skills in written English. To enhance your prospects and your creative side you can take up computer courses like multimedia that includes graphics, animation, 3D effects etc. or do web designing that includes HTML, XML, Java and DHTML.

I hold an MBA degree (distance education) and am presently employed as an accounts executive in a public Ltd. company. I have completed a diploma course in computers as well. I need your advice on: Web Designing & Web Development through Java, if Java is in demand.- ECRM, ERP & Lotus notes.
