I am a Commerce graduate and wisht to know more about TOEFL.
When is the exam is held and from where I can get the application
forms?

You can get the application forms for TOEFL from the Institute of
Psychological and Educational Measurement (IPEM), Mahatma Gandhi
Road 211001 Allahabad - UP, India. For more information regarding
the test dates and application forms, you can write to the afore
mentioned institute or visit their website, www.toefl.org.
I am doing my final year LLB from Nargarjuna University. I would
like to know about JAG and the NCC Law Cadre. Kindly provide
detailed information about the examination pattern, syllabus,
selection procedure and the age limit to pursue this course.

Candidates between the ages of 21-25 years, and with a
professional law degree and a minimum of 50% marks or above are
eligible to take the JAG exam. Selection is through a written
examination conducted by the JAG Department, in March. The
Service Selection Board subsequently conducts interviews, usually

I am a final year mechanical engineering student. I wish to
pursue a diploma in operations research. Please mention the
universities offering this course.

The Universities of Mumbai, Baroda, Madras and Burdwan, offer
diploma courses in the subject. The Anna University and
Bharathidasan University also offer a diploma course in

I have done B.Sc (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) and now doing MA
(Sociology) from Agra University. Please list the career
prospects in sociology?

A postgraduation in sociology will enable you to work as a social
researcher in advertising, TV or radio. The other related fields
that you can contemplate branching out into are law, accountancy,
merchant banking, journalism, publishing, management, public
relations, social work and teaching.
I am a final year BCA student. I wish to know more about the
course- MSIT, advertised in The Hindu- Opportunities. Kindly
provide detailed information about the course, admission
procedure and fees. How is it different from other learning
programs?

MS (IT) is an interdisciplinary Master of Science programme in
Information Technology. BCA graduates have to pursue a three-year
course while it is a 2 - year program for engineering graduates
and Post- graduates. A one-year postgraduate diploma is also
available. The degree is co-signed by Carnegie Mellon University
and the participating universities or the university that is
hosting the Learning Centre. An internationally recognised
certification, 3-year applicants need to qualify the entrance
test (GAT-B) to seek admission and PGs and Engineers need to
qualify for GAT-A. The last day for receiving applications is the
4th of May. Applicants possessing good TOEFL and GRE scores can
apply directly. You can either apply online or by post, following
the format as given in The Hindu- Opportunities dated April 18th.
The course provides for rolling admissions as well.
The course purports to combine the strengths of sophisticated
educational technologies and personalised mentoring. The course
content is delivered through electronically connected classrooms
in distributed learning centres and mentors guide the students.
The mentors are trained and certified by the Centre for
Distributed Learning.
Essentially, the program aims at self- paced learning. The course
content includes 70 credits in IT education and 10 in soft
skills. Placement assistance will also be provided.
