You could take up a course in advertising, copy writing, and mass communication. You could begin by working as a trainee in an ad agency, and with experience move on to higher posts of responsibility.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi; Xavier Instituteof Communications; Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan; Bhavan's Tanna College ofCommunication and Management; Sophia College; B.K.Somani Polytechnic; KC College of Management Studies; Bhavan's P D N College of Communicationand Management, Mumbai; Bhavan's Rajaji College of Communication andManagement; Chennai Institute of Communication; School of Advertisingand Communication, Bhavan's College of Communication and Management, NewDelhi; and the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune are someof the better known colleges that offer courses in advertising and masscommunication. You need to be a graduate to apply for any of thecourses.

I am doing B.Tech (civil engineering) and wish to pursue M.Tech or M.S.What is the difference between M.Tech and M.S? Please mention theinstitutes that offer these courses.

Abdul Hakeem

New Delhi

M.S stands for Master's in Science. It includes pure sciences (physics, chemistry, biology), whereas M.Tech essentially deals with technicalaspects. Civil engineering graduates find ample employment opportunitiesin government and private sector. In the government sector, engineersfind jobs in the armed forces and the departments of irrigation, publicworks, roads, airports, harbors, ports, railways, etc. In the privatesector, companies engaged in housing, infrastructure and consultancyoffer employment opportunities to civil engineers. Due to the opening upof the economy and privatisation of infrastructure development, there isexpected to be a good demand for civil engineers.

Following are the names of a few institutes that offer M.Tech in CivilEngineering: Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Kanpur, and Madras;Kakatiya University, Andhra Pradesh; Kurushetra University, Harayana;University of Roorkee, Uttar Pradesh; and the University of Burdwan,West Bengal.
