I have completed my BA (English Hons) and wish to pursue MA in Linguistics. What are the job prospects for the subject?

With the impact of globalisation, career prospects for linguists are growing. Linguists and translators are employed by multinational organisations, law firms, the government, educational institutions, and software companies. Freelancing is another option that experienced linguists can explore. There is a growing demand for qualified linguists in the area of voice Accent Neutralisation courses that are in heavy demand by the numerous call centers mushrooming across the country.

Berhampur University, Orissa has introduced a degree in MFA (Masters in finance analyst). The duration of the course is for two-years.

I am a B.Com graduate and wish to pursue a career in textile designing. Please list the institutes offering the course (in Delhi) and the job prospects after completing the course.

Textile designers are employed in various textile- manufacturing, apparel and fashion sectors in the areas of production, designing, R&D or work as a consultant. Various institutes across the country offer a variety of courses related to fashion and textile. You can take-up a diploma in textile designing. The following institutes offer the course: the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Gandhinagar; the InternationalInstitute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi; Pearl Academy of Fashion,New Delhi (1 year graduate programme in computer aided design appareltextiles).

I will be completing my postgraduate course in geography from Patna University. I would like to pursue a course in remote sensing or Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Please furnish detailed information of the universities that offer courses in the mentioned subjects, along with their address and websites.

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) involves assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information. GIS can be regarded as the high-tech equivalent of a map. This technology can be used for scientific investigations, resource management, and development planning.

I am pursuing M.Sc in microbiology. I want to know what the job prospects of the course are and what other course can I opt for, afterthe completion of my degree.

Microbiologists can work in a various establishments ranging from industry, government, and the non-profit sector to education. They canwork for companies in the field of food, agriculture and pollution control. The fields of biotechnology, health and pharmaceutical are alsoother avenues of employment. In the government sector, one can work inlabs, hospitals, agencies or water treatment facilities run by the government such as the National Institutes of Health, and the Environmental Protection Agency. You can also consider pursuing M.Phil and then a Ph.D. in the subject.

I am pursuing MCA from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). As it is a correspondence course I don't have much practical knowledge. Please tell me what the job prospects are, after the completion of the course.

With an MCA degree, you can work as an Analyst programmer, application programmer, CAD designer, CAD/CAM technician, consultant, graphics specialist, Web developer, Web master,operations manager, security analyst, customer engineer, data communications specialist, information services executive, inspection supervisor, management information systems analyst, operations research analyst, program librarian, regional manager, software services representative, systems analyst, systems design specialist, systems development manager, systems maintenance analyst, technical services manager, technical training manager.

Most of the jobs mentioned above require competence in systems analysis. The systems analyst is a professional problem solver who analyses the different sets of manual procedures in use in an organisation and replaces them with computerised processes.
