My brother is pursuing his B.Com and wishes to pursue a course in chartered accountancy. What are the requirements to take up the course and how does one apply?

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), which conducts the course, has its headquarters at New Delhi and regional offices at Kanpur, Mumbai, Kolkatta and Chennai in addition to 81 branches spread all over the country. The institute has also established 9 chapters overseas.

Those seeking to register with ICAI for pursuing the course need to fulfill the following criteria: (a)Must be 18 years of age (b)must have completed the 10 month duration `Foundation Course' conducted by ICAI or (after 10+2 one can enrol for `Foundation Course') (c)Must be a graduate or post graduate in subject that qualifies for exemption from the foundation course viz. graduates in commerce with 50% marks, graduates, without mathematics, with 55% marks,Non-commerce graduates with mathematics, having 60% marks

A student can enroll for the foundation course straight away after 10+2 and thereafter seek registration for the CA course. However graduation has also to be pursued side by side as it is an essential requirement for becoming a full-fledged CA.

Candidates who fulfill the eligibility requirements have to send their applications in the prescribed form, together with a demand draft for Rs. 1500/- drawn in favor of 'The Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India' Payable at New Delhi/Mumbai/ Kolkatta/Chennai/ Kanpur, as the case may be depending upon the State in which they reside.

I am doing a correspondence course (M.Sc psychology) from the University of Madras. I would like to do my M.Phil. in clinical psychology. Kindly mention the names of universities that offer this course. Are there any other areas of specialisation available in clinical psychology? What are the job prospects in this field?

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Bangalore; University of Delhi; and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Karnataka, offer a degree in clinical psychology. Areas of specialisation in clinical psychology include health psychology, neuro-psychology and geropsychology. Generally, psychologists are employed in the fields of social work, management, human resource development, personnel development and public relations. Psychologists can seek employment in hospitals, psychiatric clinics, schools and colleges, and in private institutions, in teaching and research centres. They can also work with voluntary agencies, welfare organisations and de- addiction centres.

I doing my plus two and would like to become a leather technologist. Please name the institutes that offer a BE in leather technology.

I am an engineer (Industrial Management) from Bangalore University. I want to know about job prospects in this field. Would I be eligible to apply for the post of a mechanical engineer in a government undertaking?

Industrial engineers can work with manufacturing companies and service providers such as banks, transport and insurance companies. Most graduates work for management consultants, while some may become entrepreneurs. Due to the demand for industrial engineers, these professionals earn highly lucrative salaries and the prospects for promotion are also excellent due to the management background. Industrial engineers can either opt for management or a technical post. What is industrial biotechnology and what are the job opportunities available?

Industrial biotechnology is the application of scientific and engineering principles to the processing of materials by micro organisms (such as bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoa and viruses) or plant and animal cells to create useful products or processes. There are ample opportunities in the food processing, chemical the brewing and textile industry. Some industries employ biotechnologists in their marketing divisions to develop business in sectors where their products would be required. They also help to identify biotechnological development opportunities in India and abroad.
