Do you consider yourself to be organised? Do you manage your time well - how do you answer in an interview?

SMITA

Bangalore

The interviewer wants to hear about your work skills concerning time and task management, not that you have neatly separated the paperclips in your desk drawer into different trays based on size.A model answer might be "I manage my time very well. I routinely complete tasks ahead of schedule'. Offer the interviewer proof of your organisational skills by telling him about a major project that you organised and completed on time or mention instances where you've successfully managed difficult deadlines or multitasked.

What are the career prospects for criminology?

NARESH

Chennai

Graduates of criminology find careers working in prisons, the police service in areas of community safety and crime prevention. The demand for professionals with expertise in this area is growing. Some graduates enter directly into the labour force in law enforcement, delinquency prevention and control services, crime prevention, corrections, probation or parole, criminal justice administration, and research. Like other social science majors, undergraduate criminology majors also are employed in non-crime related sectors such as: health and social services (e.g., in substance abuse and rehabilitation counseling); community work (e.g., in child welfare agencies); and federal, state, and local government (e.g., in urban planning and housing).

They work in law, public policy, social work, business, theology, and urban planning. Graduate degrees lead to teaching and/or research positions in universities or colleges, governmental agencies, business and industrial firms, research institutes in the nonprofit sector, or self-employment and consulting.

Please give me tips on how to improve concentration.

LALITHA

Hyderabad

Concentration is nothing but the ability to focus on a task impeturbitably. Attention span and levels of concentration vary from person to person. Take a short survey of how you long you can concentrate. And accordingly, divide your work/ task.

Take short 5-minute breaks whenever you feel your mind is wandering or jot down thoughts or pending activities that seem to be distracting you from your task at hand. Set the list aside to be accomplished later when you can spare the time.

Follow a regular study schedule; it will help you stick to a time frame everyday. Break the monotony and de-stress yourself whenever you feel the stress is getting to you. Set goals that are realistic (number of problems to solve, pages to read, etc.). When you have met one of your study goals, reward yourself with a short break.

Keep yourself away from all distractions; this can improve concentration. Make sure you have everything that you need before you begin your study plan. Make sure your environment is conducive to studying, no TV, no telephone, or any other outward disturbances.

Make studying an active process; take notes and make review sheets. Intersperse different kinds of study into one session, e.g. reading, writing, taking notes, memorising, etc.

Identify how what you are studying is relevant to your life. Draw connections between things you already know.

Ensure that you are getting good sleep, eating well, and exercising regularly. Your mind will be more alert, and you will be less likely to fall asleep or daydream.

Fashion designers need to be artistic and creative, while working with fabric. They should be able to express their ideas in sketches. They may not be brilliant artists but must be able to combine colour, shade and tone in a very original and practical fashion.

Being fashion-conscious and highly aware of the constantly changing fashions is a basic requirement.

Designers must be good communicators too. Self-employed or freelance designers need to be sharp and talented. An ability to devote long working hours will definitely be an asset and hold you in good stead in the long run.

Work involves selling ideas, persuading and influencing various internal and external audiences. Fashion designing begins with sketching the idea on paper, and shaping the pattern pieces which make the garment. Therefore, much time is spent on gathering information and creating the product to suit client or customer requirements.

Now, you may end up wondering why you ever thought it was a glamorous job! A fashion designer's work is highly competitive and stressful. All the glamour and excitement come after a good deal of hard work, and does make it worth its while. A lot of teamwork goes into every good creation. Fashion shows need continuous output of high quality work over long periods of time. At times, intermittent travel is common to select fabric, study fashion trends, and to arrange fashion displays.<137>
