Graduates/Post graduates of all disciplines including the engineering stream with 2-10 years experience are eligible for registration. Those with less than 2 years of experience are considered as freshers. Once the registration acknowledgment is received, you can attend the fair to meet prospective employees.
Suitable candidates will be short-listed and sent for interviews and tests at the venue. So come prepared. If you are unable to meet all the recruiters you are interested in at the fair, you can register your name and submit your resume at these stalls and you could be called for an interview at a later date.
In order to make your visit to the fair a success, prepare yourself appropriately by considering details that need your attention, like:
Doing your research: Do some research on these companies you are interested in. It is better not to waste time with companies that do not interest you. With so much information about companies on the Web, research is only easy.
Resumes: Prepare a resume in the appropriate format and make several copies of it. If you have multiple interests, skills or job objectives, make sure you bring enough of each version of your resume. Above all your resume must be well prepared and up to date. It is always advisable to carry portfolios that should include copies of your resumes, a list of references, and samples of your best work. You never know what opportunities may show up at the fair!
Attire: If you are keen on making the right impression, treat the event as a professional event and dress accordingly.
Strategy: Have a strategy or plan on how to go about the fair, you have already done the first step of short-listing the companies you are interested in. The next step would be determining an order of interviewing. It is better to meet reps of your top choices first thing in the morning, checking out your other choices in the middle of the day, and returning to your top choices at the end of the day to thank the company reps again for their time.
Interviews: In a job fair you may only have two to five minutes to market yourself and prevent yourself from being screened out, so make the most of your time. Experts suggest that you develop a one-minute "commercial" that highlights the key benefits that you can offer the organisation and to use this at the beginning of the interview. You should also be prepared by rehearsing answers to possible interview questions just as you would for any employment interview. Also be prepared with the questions you want to ask the company representative. Offer your resume and ask for a business card.
Follow-up: There are two main methods of follow-up, either you can actually call the recruiter on the evening of the fair and thank him/her for their time that day. A more concrete and traditional method would be to write a thank you note and mail it the next day to the address on the recruiter's business card.
Remember, that jobs don't just fall from heaven - they happen at The Hindu Opportunities Job Fair. Be a go-getter and grab the opportunities right in front of you.
