Juggling time effectively is not a CEO’s secret!

They are often perceived as these wonder-guys, who can handle almost every job on hand and get down to detailing; and still nonchalantly come across like they have got all the time in the world! But, the reality is not as rosy as it appears to be. Running a company must be one real tough job and successful CEOs definitely know how to make the most of time, while not missing out on opportunities.

After reading the interviews of about 20 successful record making and breaking CEOs, we have come to the conclusion that nothing is impossible in love and war. And for the inspiring CEO, his company is his love, while he incessantly wages the war of competition! Here is an exclusive list of some tips and common thoughts that have emerged from what these 20 CEOs have shared.

Time management-an attitude, not practice

Ask any successful CEO and he would agree with this statement! If you possess the outlook that nothing is going to distract you from concentrating on the current job at hand, you are a sure-shot winner.

You do not have to practice switching off your cell phones or shutting yourself off from the world, only to stop getting distracted. The attitude comes with the package that constitutes success!

Schedules with flexibility

When was the last time you had a completely chalked out schedule that went haywire because of a small intrusion? The golden rule is to never plan your schedule, minute-by-minute.

Of course, planning helps. But agenda making for the day is not about closing the other options out. It is all about successful management of newer options that emerge out of the blue, and yet doing justice to the agenda.

Mistakes help

We feel that CEOs who attain success have simply not faced failure. Most often, we are wrong. “People waste a lot of time by not letting themselves fail”, says Tim Draper, Founder and MD of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. “It is expedient to allow oneself to fail, gather and put oneself back together, learn and move on. Failures are a waste of time, only if you sit back and regret over what transpired. Instead, try to visualise this as a learning opportunity, make sure you know your lessons now and move on.”

The twin Ps

Success is never complete without being Passionate and Patient. If you want to reduce the time taken for decision-making, just sit back and relax. Use every moment at your disposal and make decisions with your heart, mind and soul.

Follow your heart and you can never go wrong; and give your mind the freedom to give your decision a pragmatic approach! Do not rush up, since it leads to incomplete work or a half-hearted approach. All along, do remember that you must never overlook humanity for speed!

Climbing up the ladder

The best way to waste time in hand is to initiate a piece of work without being prepared! Do not jump into the bandwagon, only to contest in the rat race. Lack of preparation can easily destroy your efforts and perseverance.

Therefore, do your homework beforehand and get to the work at once!

Deadline panic

Creative minds often crib about how deadlines often act as dissipaters of their creativity, since they do not have enough time to explore the horizon. However, it is common experience that lack of deadlines often leads to procrastination of sorts! As students, did not we work hard when the exam date was closing in? Deadlines often act as accelerators and also push us headlong into the job.

Time Management is certainly not limited to successful CEOs alone. One can incorporate it in one’s routine at work. Whoever quipped ’Time is Money’, most certainly must have been a CEO!
