These signs indicate you need a promotion
You have been in your present job for a considerable period and you strongly feel that it is time you got a promotion. Though you do not want to change jobs at present, you want to explore the possibility of moving up in your organisation. Maybe you are bored with your current job content and are looking for something more exciting and challenging or feel that tinge of jealousy when you see your colleagues get promoted.
Here is a list of additional signs that indicate it is time to move up:
Labels: You are typecast because you do a job particularly well, maybe you make great presentations or are adept at dealing with customers, probably you are a good sales man and have mastered the art of persuasive selling. But seriously do you want to be known only for these talents? Does it irritate you when co-workers or managers call you as the ‘smooth talker’ or the ‘customer relations expert’? You wish to break free of such titles and prove to yourself and others that you have other talents, which you can utilise when you move up the ladder.
Doing more than one job: In spite of the fact that you have been given additional responsibilities and are doing more than one job, it is no indication of the fact that you have moved up the ladder. You may just be doing more of regular, routine work rather than doing managerial tasks.
More time in your hands: You have more time in your hands, you find yourself having hours with nothing to do. Though the management may frown when you twiddle your thumbs and colleagues may envy your free time, only you know the truth. You are probably finishing your work much ahead of time or you have become too proficient in your job that you can do it with your eyes closed. Whatever the reason, it is an indication that you need to look out for better things to do.
Additional qualifications: While doing your job, you have earned an additional degree like an MBA and now you want to use this additional qualification along with your work expertise to move up the ladder.
Thinking of quitting: If thoughts of quitting the job are occurring to you then it is time you earnestly pursue the possibility of a promotion.
Remember it is difficult to get back into an organisation once you quit. It would be wiser to explore all possibilities of growth in your present job before you decide to move out.
Bad mood: Your frustration on not being promoted is probably reflected in the bad mood you display or the constant feeling you have of being stuck in a rut.
This is an indication that you have outgrown your current job and need a change.
Friends have moved up: The colleagues who were with you on the initial days of your job have now moved up and you think it is time you caught up with them.
Praise from your boss: If you find your boss or manager citing your work and achievements as a model example to others once too often, it is a fair indication that you have what it takes. But stop waiting for your boss to give you that push, rather take initiative and document all the praise and compliments you have received from your boss and show it to him as proof that you deserve a promotion.
If you are experiencing any or all of these signs in your job, then it is definitely time to take action and ask for that promotion due to you.
