Low-cost perks can highly motivate employees

The TGIF or Thank-God-It’s-Friday is one day that the employees at Google look forward to. It not only makes them feel rejuvenated, but also allows them to bond and come together as a unit. This is certainly one of Google’s unique ways of making their employees feel special and fostering team building and bonding; and all this while it hardly costs them anything!

Employee perks today, are not just related to monetary benefits, but go all the way to making your employees feel special and showing that you do care for them! Studies reveal that more than 75 percent of employees working in mediocre paying jobs find happiness in perks that need not necessarily be in the form of money.

Something as simple as an outing or a get together after the completion of a successful project is sometimes all that employees look forward to! Here is a list of some great low-cost ways to reward your performers with perks:

Discounts: Employees love it if they can indulge their family in some great shopping experience. Make their experience enjoyable by giving them special discount coupons at select stores. You could also get them free or low-cost memberships at health-clubs and gyms, family clubs or for electronic goods. There’s nothing like making your employee’s family happy!

Work-from-home days: Employees will not be extremely jubilant about coming to office daily and slogging it out all week long. Give them a break from office, but not necessarily from work! Try allowing your employees to work from home, to ease out job burn-outs and to allow refreshing changes into their work processes.

Movie mania: A movie-day, once a month will do more good than harm, to your employees, as it not only eases out burnouts and fatigue, but also offers them the chance to bond over entertainment. Of course, you can derive double the benefit by screening inspiring movies like the recent ‘Chak De!’ that could leave your employees entertained and also boost their spirits.

Better than the best: Make sure you reward your best-performing employee at regular intervals. You could perhaps initiate this plan, by announcing the best-performer of the week or fortnight and reward them suitably. Not only will this increase efficiency from all quarters, but it will also keep your employees satiated and egg them on to achieve more!

Occasions: The annual closing, new year and other festivals can become an excuse for some fun and frolic, and bonding as well. While this is a relatively easy way to win over your employees, it is also something that catapults their undivided loyalty.

Free seminars and paid training: Employees, most often, look to upgrade their skill-sets and keep shifting from one job to another, depending on the job that utilises their talent to the maximum. Free seminars and paid training can not only help them upgrade their skills, but can help retain talent and avoid attrition. You could, for instance, get your employees to undergo training and place them at a higher post that is challenging and makes the most of their talent.

These are some of the low-cost and most catapulting perks---something that goes beyond the ‘solely-monetary’ part of incentives. These perks not only gain you employee loyalty, but also foster a spirit of unity and team spirit, which is most essential for your company, besides benefitting your employees.
