VIEWPOINT

Let every downfall strengthen your will

Ella Wheeler Wilcox, a famous poet and writer said, “There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul”. This explains the role ‘determination’ or ‘will’ has in the journey to success. Every human being has two attitudes towards every situation in life. One encourages advancement while the other pulls back. The one we support will decide our future. Our will to identif y and support the ‘encouraging attitude’ makes way for miracles in our lives. We can change our career, relations and in fact our whole life for the better.

We all heard of success stories where the heroes were laggards and losers until they suddenly began to be successful. It was not their destiny; it was not their luck. It was their will to succeed that made them what they are. Each one of us can be like them once we will to be and it is we who decide when the turning point must come. The will to break old habits, at any age will transform us and make us achieve the impossible

We are often disheartened by a lost opportunity and feel unsure if we can succeed after it. But the fact is that our will has the power to seek opportunities. It is the will that helps to identify, evaluate and grab right opportunities. While some of us can seize and start working on an opportunity, others are depressed for losing it. But every loss actually teaches a lesson. Whether we understand it or not depends on us.

Improvement sustains success. And life continuously provides chances to improve because that is what it expects of us. We must set goals to improve and remember that harder our task is greater is our achievement. Excuses are only poor substitutes of actions. The first step to success is desire. Then comes the will to learn and execute what it takes to be successful. The path of gaining knowledge leads to success. Therefore, we must cultivate the zeal to learn. People in positions of power and responsibility are there because of their enthusiasm, efforts and achievements that prove their will. They have a record of turning adversities to advantages with their optimistic approach and confidence, the byproducts of will.

All of us want success and are ready to put in efforts. But the initial obstacles make most of us give up. To be a winner, we must not stop even if it means making sacrifices. As our will to succeed increases, the obstacles however big will appear smaller. Most of us, know at least to some extent, the importance of will in attaining success. But we still let sorrow and failures undermine it. With each instance, we let our inherent powers to get suppressed. In such situations, we need someone to remind us of our omnipotent will and motivate us to make use of it.

Books are of great use here. Good books make us aware of our abilities and boost our will to use them. Other source of such motivation is people. We must appreciate and encourage people for we receive the same from them when needed. But the help of these external sources is only little. To them, we should add our efforts, to redeem control on our self. We must resolve to overcome our weaknesses and negative feelings that hinder our progress. Every downfall must only strengthen our will. People endeavouring for success are often misunderstood by friends and relatives. Some do not have even the resources. But the will gives them the courage to gain victories against all odds. So we must not let any force dampen our will for it is the principal resource to achieve success.
