Tech-fests now a great way to relax, network

College fests and culturals, reality shows and talent hunts are passe.

The new flavour of the season is to host tech-fests.

Yes, the techies have gone beyond the nitty-gritties of routine work-life and dealing with programme codes and workloads, to socialise and network, all while rejuvenating and relaxing.

A recent tech-fest in Kerala saw over 18, 000 techies taking part in the weeklong cultural fiesta. Held at TechnoPark, Tech-a-Break, 2008 was a musical extravaganza, with a dash of tech fundamentals and exhibition of social concern. With themes like the Halloween and Seasons, employees from different companies came dressed in accordance with the theme.

Singing competitions, DJ nights and karaoke tracks characterised the fun-event.

Fun wasn’t the only aspect, since Save Planet Earth was a competition that sprung up novel ideas from teams, to highlight issues of environmental concern.

Innovative races like Baby’s day out and the like certainly got the techies involved in some sporting action.

Tech-fests are taking over corporate parties or other get-togethers that are more formal and mundane.

Tech-fests have become the destination to indulge in some fun and frolic, while not leaving behind work.

Companies come together, interact and indulge in some fun. These fests have also turned into a ground for networking.

An employee from one of the leading software companies got to interact with the HR managers from another leading company during one such fest and got placed in a higher position in the latter’s company a few days later.

Another company got a whiff of what the competitors had in store and came up with a similar plan.

This is not all, in fact tech-fests are a breeding ground for competition-companies compete to usurp the best employees from each other, compare developments and advancements made, research on the work cultures and ultimately try to plan on outdoing each other!

Tech-fests are a great way to relax, bond and also network. The additional perks like finding friends and making some great personal contacts, are fulfilling too.
