CONSTRAINED as I am with a rigid knee joint, I had to take too much of care for my train journey to Trivandrum from Chennai. The concession I got for my senior status hardly comforted me, for it was my disability that bothered me and not my old age. It was with anguish that I set out. The auto driver carried my baggage and led me into the platform, and the porter helped me into the compartment and I even managed to get a lower berth from my fellow passengers without me asking for it! Where do such good souls vanish when it comes to MTC travel? The buses are not even stopped for sufficient time to see the old and disabled get-in and get-out safely. Why, the disabled do not even get the seats earmarked for them!
