Pictures still wanted

Work on the restoration of Senate House is going on apace. The entire interior, as well as the exterior, except the towers, is likely to be completed by June. Those towers, whose domes have been so ingeniously constructed, will take a few months more to restore.

They should be ready by September 5, Founder's Day, when the 150th year celebrations of the University of Madras will get into full swing. Meanwhile, it is likely that Senate House will be re-dedicated by the President of India in July. It is proposed to mark the occasion with the release of two books, a pictorial history of the University and a commemorative volume on Senate House, the University's first building, which was inaugurated in 1873.

That pictorial history needs a host of pictures from the past to complement those of more recent times and today. Readers who have pictures of their pre-Independence college days, of functions in departments of the university, of university functions, and of the University's sporting and extracurricular activities could help to make this book an invaluable pictorial album. I you have any such pictures, the Documentation Committee of the University, which is preparing the volumes, would be very grateful if you would send them to Professor Josephine, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai 600 005. The pictures will be returned to you after use.
