Cowon iAudio U3 (1GB)

Directly pitted against iPod nano, the Cowon iAudio U3 is definitely not for the technophobe. The U3's interface is leagues behind the extremely user-friendly iPod. The navigation is via a four-way pushable joystick in tandem with buttons on for record, menu, and a single play/stop/power button - all located on the side. Though the tactile feel of the button is great, there is one grouse. Like most products in the world, it ignores the existence of lefthanders, and being one myself, I am sorely missing out the option to change the screen orientation. The `Trump Card' that the U3 has up its sleeve is the ability to play video considering the small screen size and the low frame rates, it is definitely not for serious video viewing. Bottom line: it is feature rich, but not for me.

Price: Rs.12,000

Blackberry 8700g

The latest of the blackberry devices to hit the Indian mobile service providers' list of offerings, that 8700g is a good looking, responsive device. This is the first Blackberry with an Inter XScale processor. While the device has become faster, the size has shrunk and it is most evident in the size and the lay out of the keys. If you have large fingers, there are bound to be a few mistypes. The battery life is pegged at four hours of continuous talk time and 16 days on standby. Considering the performance of other devices, we are sure that the estimates might be pretty close. A pretty desirable piece this.

Price: Rs. 10,000.

Canon PowerShot SD430

The SD430 is a SD550 Digital Elph, with no strings attached, literally. The SD430 is a 5.0 megapixel camera with one of the best wireless adapters in the market. The element that differentiates the SD430 from the other cameras is the presence of the glass viewfinder. The camera connects to both open and WEP enabled networks. The flash works brilliantly and the shots are comparable to that of any other top of the line camera. For those who do not find much use for the wireless functionality, I would suggest the brilliant PowerShot S80, an 8.0 megapixel stunner that was reviewed earlier.

Price: Rs 25,000.
