PRETTY IN PINK A young girl shows how a colourful umbrella can be your monsoon accessory
The monsoons are officially here and let's face it, however fashionable (or not) your clothes are you don't want to be soaking wet at the end of the day.
To keep yourself warm and dry in this weather, invest in proper rain protection. Raincoats, umbrellas and coats are available across the city in various price ranges. Rainwear starts at about Rs. 150 and can go up to Rs.3,000. This includes basic styles and few sports brands as well.
General Bazaar is a haven for almost anything. No Burberry Mackintoshes here, but you can get all kinds of rain protection in different price ranges.
The stately grandfather type black umbrellas are in abundance here. These umbrellas are large, with a sturdy framework and come with handles of different lengths.
You pay for the quality of the fabric the umbrella is made of and sometimes you even pay for the brand value!
The other kind of umbrellas include little head band kind umbrellas for children that come in bright colours and have cartoon characters printed on them.
The most popular print is the multi-coloured one that is meant to look like a rainbow! Raincoats can be bought at hosiery stores at M.G road or from the shops that line the Ramgopalpet Police Station stretch.
The branded raincoats from Rubber duck are worth every penny you will pay for them as they are more durable and will last you much longer. The flimsy type of raincoats in fluorescent colours are available by the roadside and at every plastic store, but the rubber lined ones are those that really keep the rains out.
Army supplies stores in A.O.C Centre, Tirumalgherry and Golconda side have heavy olive and khaki raincoats. These are utility based are on the heavier side, so are better for men only. These cost about Rs. 350.
The factory outlets on Tirumalgherry road house many international and domestic brands. Most of the stuff available here is not defective just last season's collection. And with rainwear, styles don't change that much.
You can pick up some nice fleece lined jackets and wind cheaters here. Likewise on the Hi-tech city Madhapur road stretch. Sports stores have opened up their discount stores on this stretch as well.
The other branded sports goods stores at Nagarjuna Circle and Road no 1 Banjara Hills have little variety in terms of sports jackets are in the higher price range.
Abids main road and Bank Street, Koti have many stores that stock uniforms and school accessories and these places keep raincoats and umbrellas as well.
