Let's do it over lunch

Paparazzi's executive lunch takes care of the weekdays while weekends at Limelight are dedicated to brunches

YUMMY SPREAD Double treat at Royal Orchid Central

Richmal Crompton's eternally 11-year-old naughty boy, William Brown, among his many chosen professions, wanted to keep a sweet shop when he grew up so that he could eat as many sweets as he wished. One wonders what would happen to William if he, heaven forbid, turns into a hotshot executive. Would he go for salads and other health foods that seems to be the norm these days?

Take Paparazzi (Royal Orchid Central, 47/1, Dickenson Road, Phone: 25584242) for instance, the restaurant with a breathtaking view of the city, perched high on the 10th floor, has recently introduced an executive business lunch with a mind-boggling range of salads and dips.

Priced at Rs. 199, the lunch is also celebration for Paparazzi being selected as one of the best amongst 82 restaurants worldwide by the premier travel magazine Conde Naste Traveler.

Chef Richard Graham explains the rotational menu. The breadbasket appears bustling with pita and garlic breads that you could eat with the most sinfully delicious flavoured butter and dip. Try the Lebanese 3 dip — it will blow your mind. The salads, including the Caesar, Greek, Mediterranean vegetables in balsamic ai oli and beans sprout and raw papaya, follow.

For the main course you could choose from a continental (wild mushroom risotto), oriental (sea bass in chilli bean sauce accompanied with steamed rice and stir-fried Chinese greens) or Indian (murg handi lababdar) option. Incidentally, the Arborio rice in the risotto costs a pretty penny and is imported from Italy. And you could wash down all the rich food with fresh fruits in tender coconut water or you could be sweet William and dig into a sumptuous mango cheesecake. The lunch is on between noon and 3 p.m.

The Sunday brunch at Limelight (Hotel Royal Orchid, Airport Road, Phone: 25205566) is more up William's alley. The brunch is from 11.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a magician to keep William occupied while David would serenade siblings Ethel and Robert and harried Mr. and Mrs. Brown can have some well-deserved Sabbath rest. The amount of food on offer is staggering. From boiled vegetables and oven roasted baby potato, idli, dal makhani, mixed vegetable curry, stir fried Chinese greens in hot garlic sauce, Chettinad chicken, Singapore rice to burgers, croissants, samosas, salads (seafood, cold cuts, Waldorf, fruit chaat) and pastries (chocolate fudge cake, strawberry bavaroise gateaux, pineapple cherry tart, bharwan rasgula and chocolate fondue) every continent and every flavour is represented.

There is also a live counter offering uttapam and neer dosa, tricolour rumali roti and pasta. Then there is a chaat counter where you could dig into hot jilebis — the ultimate jogger's breakfast — or, well, chaat. Soups come in the shape of takkali rasam, manchow chicken and cream of broccoli and almond. The buffet is priced at Rs. 575 plus taxes. So now you know what to do with the midday meal scheme!
