Pretty shades of subtlety

Sophistication is the hallmark of the a.myrah collection now available at folio

MUTED HUES The colours chosen for the collection are based on those of precious and semi-precious stones

"Clothes with a subtle expression of sophistication," says the tagline for the a.myrah collection at ffolio on Vittal Mallya Road.

Indeed, you see sophistication in every detail — in styling, material, work, and more than anything else, choice of colours. For, the range of colours chosen for the collection is based on precious and semi-precious stones, setting a baseline to choose the jewellery to go with it. "If the theme of a particular batch has iridescent colours, it is done with a common warp," explains Boppanna, manager, ffolio. "This ensures that irrespective of the predominant colour of the fabric, the tone in the underlying shimmer remains the same, with the garments cut parallel to the selvedge for accentuation."

The women's collection consists of eye-catching items such as plain black and white short and long kurtis with pin-tuck work on both sides of the buttoning area for Rs.1,200 and double-shaded crushed silk skirts (Rs. 3,900) with magenta and purple combo adding lustre. Other offers include crushed tops (Rs.1,200), drawstring trousers in silk (Rs.1,200) and cotton (Rs.600) and black silk jackets with thread embroidery and sequins work (Rs.3,900). The always-in-demand Chinese-collar shirts, crinkled and rich in thread work, come at Rs.550. The vertical striped highlighters in kurtas, cotton and linen jackets and shirts (Rs.1,900), and full arm linen and poplin shirts make up the men's collection.

Fine variety

A.myrah is a division of Gama Industries Coimbatore Limited, a newly established textile company specialising in finer varieties for the domestic and overseas market. Gama manufactures a garment from "concept to completion" using its creative expertise to conceptualise and structure, from the basic to the ornate.

"All fabrics are pre-shrunk. Natural fibres free of defects are used, with a combination of fabrics on a single piece. Linen strips on silk, lined with cotton, for example. The fabric is textured by machine, using techniques like pin tucking, pleating, quilting or crushing. This is further embellished with traditional handwork. The multidimensional, multi-regional effect comes in with the weaving — dyeing of the south, chikankari, zardosi and aari from the north, Kutchi appliqué from the west and ikat from the east. So, the material and work is a defining feature. There is no compromise on quality," asserts Bopanna.

In the "a.myrah select" assortment, garments are available as single pieces, like shirts or parallels, or as several pieces put together from a collection to make up an entire outfit. Same colour or contrast, co-ordination is what matters in styling, seems to be the a.myrah refrain.

With uniformity in the patterns, seams, facing, interfacing, interlining and stitching, along with accessories for individual expressions, a.myrah is a winner right through.
