Parikrama is back

A festival in time for the wedding season and Raksha Bandhan. This time the focus is our fabulous embroidery heritage

FINE ARRAY Parikrama brings with it an assortment of traditional Indian fabrics, works and crafts

The annual Praikrama festival is back at Shoppers' Stop and will go on till August 20. The theme this year is exquisite Indian embroideries of India.

Shoppers' Stop has been hosting the Parikrama festival since 1997. The festival aims at creating an experience of traditional Indian arts and crafts in a contemporary set-up.

Parikrama brings with it an assortment of traditional Indian fabrics, works and crafts — all contemporarily styled. It is an attempt to revive the use of Indian fabrics and bring back the livelihood of many small artisans who contribute their merchandise for this festival.

Parikrama will feature painstakingly crafted Indian embroideries inspired by the Mogul and Rajput era. Shoppers' Stop has created merchandise across its in-house labels — Kashish, Stop and Haute Curry for the festival. Embroideries such as zardosi, chikankari, kantha, gota and kinari, aari work, and kashidakari amongst others are being showcased at the festival.

The women's range offers salwar-chudidar-kameez-dupatta, mix-'n'-match combinations and the men's range a collection of fashionable short kurtas and ethnic shirts.

Non-apparel merchandise features embroidered and beaded leather juttis, a variety of batuas, jholas, evening bags, sling bags, coin pouches, jewellery boxes, mobile pouches, travel pouches and cushion covers. Evening bags with rope, cane, silk or wooden handles, panel bags, earring boxes, silk photo frames, hanging photo frames, wallets, passport pouches, cosmetic bags, framed panels, key chains, and foldable shopping bags are some of the other items on offer.

The store itself is dressed up for the occasion — the entrance and window are dressed with beautiful wooden jharokha-like fixtures lines with embroidered fabrics.

Shoppers' Stop has invited artisans and craftspersons to demonstrate their craft and sell their wares within the stores under shamianas with diwans.

With the wedding season gearing up, those interested can consult Shaadi.com professionals. Additionally, information about Shaadi Point and free Astro Life services are available.

Nirvana diamond jewellery is simultaneously hosting a "Shop with Malaika" contest, which offers the first-prize winner Nirvana diamond jewellery worth Rs. 50,000 and an opportunity to meet actor Malaika Arora Khan. Ms. Khan will help the winner take her pick from the Nirvana diamond jewellery range. The second-prize winner will receive Nirvana diamond jewellery worth Rs. 25,000 and the third-prize winner will receive a designer outfit from Buzz.
