Simply soothing

BRINGING THE PAST ALIVE Designer Payal Jain in New Delhi.

Payal Jain previewed her WIFW Spring Summer-07 collection the other day. Leading models Amanpreet Wahi and Krishna Somani displayed the collection. Called Omana, the collection has simplicity and purity. It brings the past alive, while keeping intact the demands of today's woman. For instance, Payal has used old techniques and pigment paintings from the 19th Century and has interpreted them in a fashionable context in linen and silk skirts to suit women of today.

Says Payal, "I have used digital prints, and they are mostly structured dresses that will suit an age range between 17 and 40. I have used woven linen, self-embroidered cotton silk and khadi silk." There are also fascinating hints of Creole, silk thread and appliqué work in her collection.

As the focus is on peace and calmness, the emphasis is on a neutral or muted colour palette.

Models also have an opinion about the clothes they showcase. While Krishna called the collection comfortable and liked the subtle use of colours, Amanpreet found the dresses weightless! The price ranges between Rs.4000 and16000.
