Out to dazzle

Instead of listening to "Summer of `69" by Bryan Adams they are playing their own song summer of `59! Mumtaz Patel Siddiqui and Pallavi Sikand, the emerging jewellery designers, are all set to take their customers back to `50s era. The duo showcased its collection at Vasant Continental that will be on show during the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week Spring-Summer-2007.

"This time we have used a different concept. We have used fabric with jewellery," says Pallavi. The inspiration is taken from the `50s, when sophistication was in vogue. "We have tried a natural and holiday look for the summer. We have played with summer symbols like dragonflies to give it a soothing and refreshed feel," adds Mumtaz.

In tune

Use of colours like pink, turquoise, yellow, white, indeed, gives the collection a summer touch. The fabrics are also in tune with the season. Fabrics like chiffon, silk, satin in bright shades have been used.

"The jewellery is multi-purpose, like you can convert a neckpiece into a bracelet or belt into a necklace," shares Pallavi.

The collection includes swarovski-studded earrings, attractive bracelets, rings with different shapes and belts studded with stones. Scarves and necklaces have huge glass beads and are accentuated with crystals and zircons. Use of crystals, zircons, silver and brass material is blended with the fabric.

Actress Riya Sen, who was present at the preview was mesmerised with the work. "Style to me is being comfortable, something which feels nice from within," says Riya.

The duo is presently retailing under the label `Mumtaz & Pallavi' in Kimaya in Delhi and Mumbai. The range starts Rs.10,000 and the price depends upon the piece and the work.

"We are very excited about the WIFW and discussions are on with the designers for tie-ups," sums up Mumtaz.
