City Diary

The Vanishing

Anything that has been described variously as “Fiendishly intelligent”, … “Poetry of nightmare”, “Chilling and Perverse” must be worth watching. Especially by all those who swear thrillers are the only kind of movies to watch.

Konangal Film Society plays host to The Vanishing .

Giving more details about the film would spoil the suspense somewhat, but if film critics of New York Times and The New Yorker, etc. are to be believed, you are in for a terrifying treat. George Sluizer directs the film and it comes with English sub-titles. Originally made in Dutch, the film was an entry for the 1989 Academy Awards.

Sluizer later directed an English remake of the film too starring Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock.

The Vanishing will be screened at Ashwin Hospital Auditorium, Ganapathy on January 20 (Sunday) at 5.45 p.m.
